Engage your pupils and young people through art and learning, and celebrating diversity and creativity by taking part in our ‘Young Elmer’ Learning Programme.
Integral to the main event will be Learning Programme, open to all schools and community groups in Northern Ireland. The Learning Programme, based on original Elmer stories, celebrates different concepts relating to diversity and allows local children the opportunity to be inspired and get creative in fun, hands-on and inspirational arts activities.
Elmer promotes positive messages, about inclusivity, courage and friendship and it is hoped our herd of ‘Young Elmers’ will help to create a sense of unity among the young people in Northern Ireland.
As part of the Learning Programme each school, college or community group pledges to raise a minimum of £1000 for Northern Ireland Hospice over the next 15 months. They will receive a blank Young Elmer sculpture to decorate and there will be a learning programme resource pack linked to the curriculum to help teachers stimulate young minds.
These Young Elmer sculptures will accompany our full-sized Elmers on display on the trail in allowing the pupils and their families to be able to see them all and admire the great work by each of the schools; and will be returned to their creators as a permanent legacy, once the parade has ended.
The Young Elmers will complement and add value to the main art trail, showcasing the creativity of schools within our community.
