Ulster University joins the herd for Elmer’s Big Belfast Trail

We are delighted to announce that Ulster University has joined the growing herd of sponsors for Elmer’s Big Belfast Trail!

Elmer’s Big Belfast Trail is a collaboration between Northern Ireland Hospice, Wild in Art, and Andersen Press. The trail will see a herd of 30 Elmer the Patchwork Elephant sculptures make a splash in the streets of Belfast later this summer.

Each Elmer sculpture will be designed by a local artist. The Elmers will be placed at key landmarks and open spaces across Belfast. They will create a free and family-friendly walking trail across the city. There will also be ‘Young Elmers’ decorated by schools and youth groups across Northern Ireland. As a result, these sculptures give local children the chance to get creative and see their artwork form part of the trail.

This event is just one way we are planning to mark the 21 years of Children’s Hospice care. By signing on as a sponsor Ulster University will join the celebrations and help raise vital funds for the charity.

“A Rich Artistic History…”

Professor Paul Seawright, Deputy Vice-Chancellor from Ulster University said, “We are delighted to partner with Northern Ireland Hospice on Elmer’s Big Belfast Trail. Our Belfast campus has a rich artistic history, and we hope this trail will inspire some budding artists of the future to get creative. We look forward to welcoming students, staff, and the wider public onto our Belfast campus to enjoy our uniquely designed Elmer and support NI Hospice.”

David Clements, Chair at Northern Ireland Hospice said, “We’re hoping that Elmer’s Big Belfast Trail will be a huge success! Obviously, this means we’re delighted to have Ulster University join our herd of sponsors. We’re looking forward to working with the team to promote the trail and celebrate our 21st birthday in style.

“I’d encourage others thinking about signing up to become a sponsor. By doing so you will play a key part in this wonderful event for Belfast. And in addition will be helping to raise funds to help Hospice keep providing specialist palliative care to the local community.”
